Voice Transform
Voice Transform rewrites existing text by voice. Select some text in any app, hold the transform hotkey, say what you want, and Abe replaces the selection with the result.
How to use it
Section titled “How to use it”- Select the text you want to change, in any app.
- Hold Ctrl + Alt + T (macOS: Ctrl + Option + T).
- Say your instruction, for example “make this more formal”.
- Release. Abe copies the selection, transcribes your instruction, sends both to your transform provider and types the result over your selection.
Because the result replaces your selection, you can undo it with your app’s usual undo (Ctrl + Z or Cmd + Z).
What to say
Section titled “What to say”Anything you’d ask an editor. Abe has 12 built-in presets you choose by voice: if what you say matches one of them, such as “fix grammar”, “make it formal”, “bullet points” or “translate to Spanish”, Abe uses a carefully tuned instruction for that job. If it doesn’t match a preset, Abe uses your own words as the instruction.
Things you can say
Section titled “Things you can say”| Say something like | What happens |
|---|---|
| “Fix the grammar” | Fixes grammar and spelling while keeping the meaning and tone |
| “Make it formal” | Rewrites in a more formal, professional tone |
| “Make it casual” | Rewrites in a more casual, conversational tone |
| “Make it concise” | Shortens it while keeping the key information |
| “Expand on this” | Adds detail and explanation |
| “Turn this into bullet points” | Converts it into clear bullet points |
| “Make this an email” | Reformats it as a professional email |
| “Make this a code comment” | Rewrites it as a clear code comment or documentation |
| “Summarize this” | Summarizes the key points |
| “Translate to Spanish” | Translates to Spanish |
| “Translate to French” | Translates to French |
| “Translate to German” | Translates to German |
You aren’t limited to these. “Make it friendlier”, “write this as a haiku”, “convert to a numbered checklist” and “translate to Japanese” all work: they’re sent as written.
Custom transform prompt
Section titled “Custom transform prompt”Settings → Advanced → Output → Transform Prompt lets you add standing instructions (up to 500 characters) that are included with every transform. Examples:
- “Write in British English spelling.”
- “Keep the same length as the original.”
- “Never use exclamation marks.”
Providers
Section titled “Providers”Voice Transform needs a chat model (a language model), so it always uses a cloud or custom provider, even when your transcription is Local. Choose one in Settings:
- Groq (recommended):
openai/gpt-oss-120b. Fast and costs a fraction of a cent per transform. Get a Groq key - OpenAI:
gpt-6-luna. Get an OpenAI key - Custom: any OpenAI-compatible chat endpoint, such as Ollama running on your computer (base URL
http://localhost:11434/v1) or OpenRouter. Set up a custom endpoint
Your selected text and your spoken instruction are sent to that provider; nothing goes through an Abe server. Pointing Voice Transform at Ollama keeps everything on your machine.
Limits and tips
Section titled “Limits and tips”- Selections can be up to 10,000 characters.
- If nothing happens, make sure text is actually selected and the app allows copying. See Troubleshooting.
- Short, direct instructions work best.
